What are Eating Disorders?
Eating disorders are serious mental and medical illnesses. But beyond the clinical diagnosis, what are we talking about? Using food and the body as the main sources of coping with intense emotion. The behaviors manifest differently, but, no matter the diagnosis, there is a struggle to see food as just fuel for the body. Food has a purpose – to numb, to comfort, etc. Keep reading to learn more!

Eating Disorders Can Impact Anyone
Eating disorders and disordered eating do NOT discriminate. People of all genders, ages, socioeconomic statuses, body types, etc exhibit symptoms of eating disorders. This is something that is not often recognized by society and even by those treating eating disorders. Historically, many people of color, men, transgender folx, individuals in large bodies, and others have been over looked when in actuality they were really sick. I will work with anyone who walks through my door and genuinely wants help. I also offer space for individuals from some of these marginalized groups within the eating disorder community to address both their identities and their eating disorder in the same space.

I am here to help
You will complete an initial phone consultation and a thorough assessment, after which I will make a recommendation for treatment based upon symptoms and severity.
In my experience, eating disorders develop most often from traumatic experiences, attachment issues, and unresolved family issues. They develop over time and of course are compounded by many other societal factors. It is important to keep in mind that something this complex is going to take work and often an unknown amount of time to fight. If you let me, I will be there by your side along this topsy turvy journey.
